About the client:

Our client is a digitally native vertical brand (DNVB) selling clothing in the US, Canada and the UK. They are still a relatively new business with amazing products and attention to detail. Our agency has been recommended to them by one of our past clients in May 2021. After an in-depth strategy call, we have seen tremendous potential since the brand was very crisp and unique. And the founders full of initiative and positive energy. After a brief consideration, we were very happy to partner up and help them achieve significant growth. 

Challenges:

There were many challenges that we had to face at the beginning. Since the founders had been focused primarily on product development and daily operations - the marketing side of the business was painfully chaotic and lacked a coherent long-term strategy. 

Ad accounts across Meta and Google lacked proper structure and creatives didn’t reflect the true character of the brand. This resulted in a poor ROAS, especially on Meta. Moreover, our client didn’t integrate any 3rd party tracking system - relying solely on native Meta/Google tracking systems that are known to be flawed is a bad idea, especially after iOS 14.5 update. We had a myriad of problems to solve. 

Strategy and solution:

The first thing we always do is in-depth market research. Even though we have extensive experience in multiple e-commerce markets, every brand and submarket are different and require an individual approach. Using big data research tools, ad libraries, industry reports and intelligence delivered by the client, we’ve gathered thousands of data points about the brand itself, the market, target audience and competitors. These insights always prove to be invaluable along the way.

Since the client oversees every step of their products - from factory to consumer - the margins are very healthy. Result? They can spend more to acquire a customer. Our goal wasn’t short-term profitability but rather massive growth within the next 12 months. Growing sales to over $1 million/month while maintaining a reasonable ROAS and a very healthy net profit margin. Challenge accepted.

To reach these ambitious goals, we had to create an omniplatform advertising strategy. After intense deliberation, we’ve decided to allocate 50% of the ad budget to Meta for demand generation, 30% to Google (Search and Shopping) for demand capture and the final 20% to TikTok for additional demand generation.

Since the creative side desperately needed a total revamp, we have decided to partner with a creative studio to produce over 20 UGC video ads that would accurately communicate the unique selling proposition and allow us to split-test multiple variations.

We have designed multiple campaign structures that would seamlessly blend prospecting and retargeting efforts. A crucial step was to integrate a 3rd party tracking and reporting software that would allow us to more accurately see the big picture and make data-driven decisions. In this case, we have used TripleWhale - an industry-leading e-commerce tracking and reporting tool. It helps us with attribution and tracking hundreds of important metrics. One of them is 60-day LTV - an extremely useful number that should be always used during any e-commerce decision-making process. 

After the initial testing phase, our campaigns grew in strength and started producing very good ROAS. However, we had to deal with multiple problems along the way. Insufficient data due to iOS 14.5. Decrease in ROAS and increase in CAC (customer acquisition cost) as we gradually scaled the budget. It’s a well-known marketing fact that as you scale your marketing, the cost to acquire the customer goes up. However, to alleviate this inconvenience, we have suggested multiple changes in terms of the website and email/SMS marketing to increase AOV and 60-day LTV. It can drastically increase margins and profitability.
